Post-de-minimis cost estimator
Compare two ways to serve US customers from a Canadian business: A) keep shipping each order across the border as a parcel, or B) send inventory in bulk to a US-side 3PL and ship domestically. ESTIMATE
Every default below is an example value, not a market rate. Replace them with your own carrier, broker and 3PL quotes. Duty rates depend on the product's HTS code and origin — look yours up on TariffNorth or ask a licensed customs broker. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
Assumptions and limits
- Since 12:01 a.m. EDT on August 29, 2025, low-value shipments to the US (US$800 or less) no longer enter duty-free; non-postal shipments must be entered in CBP's ACE system by a party qualified to make entry, and applicable duties, taxes and fees apply (Federal Register 2025-16802, implementing Executive Order 14324).
- Merchandise Processing Fee values are CBP's fiscal-year-2026 amounts, effective October 1, 2025 (CSMS #65741993). Exemptions for USMCA-originating goods are listed in CBP's MPF table; confirm eligibility with your broker.
- Option A applies duty to the order value; Option B applies it to the bulk customs value. Postal-network shipments follow different duty rules and are not modelled.
- Not included: additional tariffs that may apply to specific goods or origins, US state sales tax, income tax, currency conversion, insurance, returns, inventory financing, and the cost of stock sitting in two countries.
- This is an estimate for planning, not customs, tax or legal advice.
